New and ongoing projects
The Museum continues to develop its collections and exhibits.
Nailer’s cottage – interior decoration and landscaping
The reconstruction of the exterior of the traditional nailer’s cottage, which was rescued from Birmingham Road in Bromsgrove is now complete. We now aim to raise £50,000 towards the interior decoration and landscaping of the grounds around the cottage.
Animating Worcestershire Museums project
This project funded by The Arts Council and The Marches Network will enable visitors to see participating museums come alive with trained, costumed staff and volunteers and create a new website about volunteering opportunities at participating museums. Mission Church – re-painting and maintenance
Essential maintenance to the Mission Church including re-painting the exterior, maintenance to heating and wiring, costing £12,000. We have already raised £5,500 through the generous support of the Elmley Foundation, the Ian Addison Foundation, the Alan Evans Memorial Trust and the Dudley Historic Churches Trust.
Airing Court Shelter – landscaping
The Airing Court Shelter from the site of the former Barnsley Hall Hospital in Bromsgrove, which will give us the opportunity to interpret the history of treatment of mental health in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, has now been erected and work is taking place on the landscaping of the area around the exhibit.
Tollhouse – re-painting
Restoration and essential re-painting work on the Tollhouse, costing £5,000. We have currently raised £3,000 towards this target through generous support from the Hawthorne Trust, the Ian Addison Foundation, the Overwood Trust and the 29th May 1964 Charitable Trust.
Second air raid shelter – restoration and rebuilding
A second air raid shelter has been donated from a garden in Dudley, West Midlands. It has been transported to Avoncroft Museum and is currently awaiting restoration before being rebuilt next to the prefab.
