Half Term Fun: An Enchanted Adventure Tue 16 – Fri 19 For a magical experience this half term, bring your family to Avoncroft Museum. There’s crafty magic for everyone, with an alchemy trail, a hunt for fairies and spellbinding storytelling. Pre-booking advisable. £6 Children, £3 Adults. March Exhibition of Original Artwork by Tony Collins Fri 8 March – Fri 30 April Visit the Long Room to view these beautiful pieces of original artwork. Alice in Wonderland Sat 6 – Sun 7 Don’t be late for this weekend of light-hearted Alice activities. Follow Alice down the rabbit hole to discover giant games, model-making and more! Mother’s Day Sun 14 Bring your family for a special day out to Avoncroft Museum this year for Mother’s Day. Pick up a free ‘me and my mum’ activity booklet and enjoy working together as a family to complete it. Focus on: The Attic Fri 19, 2pm Discover what is in the Museum attic and how it is conserved during this talk with our Curator. Focus on: Treasure Fri 26, 2pm Discover what has been found beneath the ground in Worcestershire featuring archaeological objects from the everyday to the extremely exciting. Talk by Angie Bolton from Worcestershire’s Portable Antiques Scheme.
April A Code Cracking Easter: Mary Queen of Scots Sun 4 – Mon 5 Travel back to the time of the Tudors for mystery, intrigue and plots of treason and treachery. Secret messages travel the country between conspirators; can you help to foil the terrible plan to murder Queen Elizabeth and steal the throne for her sister Mary? A Code Cracking Easter: Sherlock Holmes Wed 7 – Thu 8 Solve crimes like the most famous Victorian sleuth, Sherlock Holmes. A Code Cracking Easter: Enigma Wed 14 – Thu 15 Learn about famous spies and codes, including the Enigma machine. Trail: A Code Cracking Easter Thu 1 – Sun 18 Put on your best spy outfit and get ready to do some undercover operations this Easter at Avoncroft. Focus On: Period Gardens Thu 29, 2pm Find out how the Museum planned and planted its period gardens. May Robin Hood Sun 2 – Mon 3 Enter Robin Hood’s Camp this weekend, as you experience what life would have been like for the famous adventurer in medieval England. Enjoy the kiddie drill, have a go archery, watching a falconry display and more.
Tour and Lunch with the Director Thu 6, 11am. £15 (£10 members) Discover Avoncroft’s past, present and future during this fascinating morning with Simon Carter, Director of Avoncroft Museum. Pre-book tickets. National Open Mills Weekend Sat 15 – Sun 16 Visit Avoncroft this weekend to see our Danzey Green post windmill in action (weather permitting).
Museums at Night: The A. von Croft Family Singers Sat 15, 6.30pm It is the night of the A. von Croft family’s recital, but something is amiss! Can you help the von Crofts and make sure the show can go on? Join us for an interactive musical mystery evening that the whole family can enjoy. Pre-booking essential. Family tickets £15 (Family Members £5) Wars of the Roses Sun 30 – Mon 31 Conspiracy, treachery and intrigue! Walk amongst knights, soldiers, ladies and servants and experience at first hand the sights and sounds of Medieval Bromsgrove, whilst the story of two knights unfolds around you. June Half Term: Imagine, design, create! Wed 2 – Fri 4 Are you a budding young architect or engineer? Come and explore how to design and build bridges, buildings and more in our workshops. Timed sessions – to be booked on the day. Focus On: The Wildflower Meadow Thu 3, 2pm A guided tour of the Museum’s newly acquired wildflower meadow. Focus On: The 1940s Tue 15, 2pm Take a trip down memory lane with this talk about wartime Britain.
Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare Performed by MDCC Sat 26, 6.30pm Tickets: £5 in advance, £7 on the door A story of passion and power, lust and restraint, sin and virtue and finally forgiveness and mercy. Performance will take place indoors if the weather is adverse. Please bring your own seating. Wartime Weekend Sat 19 – Sun 20 Visit Avoncroft this weekend to be transported back to the 1940s. Discover life on the home front, watch the soldiers train for battle and in action on the battlefield. Talks will be presented throughout the day including ‘Fashion on the Ration’. Plus, on Sunday, there will be classic buses running to The Transport Museum, Wythall, with its huge collection of buses and battery-electric vehicles. A Two Museums for Two ticket costing £25 will cover admission to both Museums and as many bus rides as you like for two adults (plus up to 3 children can go free when accompanying two adults with this ticket). July Trail: Time Scene Investigation Mon 19 – Sun 25 Examine the evidence of years gone by and explore what objects can tell us about the past in our National Archaeology Week trail. National Archaeology Week Tue 20 – Wed 21 Why do people dig for old pots and coins from the past, and what can we learn from them? Find out about what archaeologists do and why they do it, and have a go at some digging in our special reproduction trench. Experimental Archaeology Day Thu 22 Try out the techniques used in the past and create something to take home. Timed sessions – to be booked on the day TRAIL: Covert Communications Mon 26 July – Sun 1August Collect all the messages from the secret agents that are hidden around the site to work out where the enemy spy is hiding! Get Connected Tue 27 – Wed 28 Come along to Get Connected for a chance to have a go at semaphore flags, Morse code, a Chinese whispers trail and more. Secret Agent Thu 29 Have a go at being a secret agent today. Learn some cracking codes, have a go at invisible writing and make some disguises! Timed sessions – to be booked on the day. August Trail: Medieval Life Mon 2 – Sun 8 Explore what life was like in medieval times for the rich and the poor with our medieval life trail. Wattle and Daub Wed 4 Have a go at creating a wattle and daub panel. Timed sessions – to be booked on the day. Knight Academy Thu 5 Learn how to be a medieval knight, from the art of chivalry to fighting techniques. Timed sessions – to be booked on the day. Medieval Joust! Sat 7 – Sun 8 Come and experience the joy of a joust as you witness our medieval tournament. This promises music, dance, a real battle of skills on horseback, foot combat and the medieval joust itself. Trail: Birds, bugs and big bad beasts! Mon 9 – Sun 15 From the smallest to the tallest, explore the life that you can find at the Museum and in your own gardens at home. Go Wild! Tue 10 – Wed 11 Get up close to nature by visiting our mobile zoo, exploring animal tracking trails, mini beast hunts, craft activities and more. Pond Dipping Thu 12 Search for signs of tiny life in our pond in our pond dipping sessions for families. Timed sessions – to be booked on the day. Trail: Visionary Victorians Mon 16 – Sun 22 Find out about some of the cleverest people of the Victorian era, and how their ideas changed the world forever. Victorian Wash Day Wed 18 Find out what it was like to do the laundry in Victorian times, and have a go yourself.
Eiffel Tower Challenge Thu 19 Learn about Victorian design and engineering as you attempt to win a prize by building the tallest tower in the time limit in this interactive session. Timed sessions – to be booked on the day. Victorian Industry Weekend Sat 21 – Sun 22 Visit Avoncroft this weekend to see many of our exhibits brought to life by volunteers and re-enactors. Discover how industry changed lives, and have a go at some hands-on craft to take home with you. Trail: Heroes Through the Ages Mon 23 August – Fri 3 September Learn about the history of emergency rescue teams through the ages, from the first policemen to the origins of the lifeboat association.
Become a Hero Tue 24 – Wed 25 Activities and fun for all the family at our mid-week celebration of heroes - ordinary people who do extraordinary jobs. Family Forensics Day Thu 26 Come and find out if you have what it takes to be a real CSI in our fantastic family forensics day! Timed sessions – to be booked on the day. Family ticket £20 (inc Museum admission). Meet the Heroes Mon 30 Come and meet some modern-day heroes - ordinary people who do extraordinary jobs. With talks and displays from groups including the fire service, air ambulance and lifeboat association, as well as craft activities and games and challenges. If you’re a modern-day hero yourself, show your ID at the Museum shop for free admission. Call the Museum for details of eligible organisations and suitable identification. September

Wychavon Oil Engine Preservation Society Rally Sat 11 – Sun 12 Enjoy walking round the Museum and viewing these interesting machines. International Talk Like a Pirate Day! Sun19 Come along to the Museum this Sunday for some swashbuckling pirate fun! Focus on: The Attic Thu 23, 2pm Discover what is in the Museum attic and how it is conserved during this talk with our Curator. October Avoncroft Art Exhibition For the month of October, our beautiful 15 acre site is being transformed into a giant art gallery. Submissions to the exhibition will be accepted in advance and during October. Contact the Museum for more details about joining in with this fantastic project. All ages and abilities welcome. Art Exhibition: Launch Weekend Sat 2 – Sun 3 Get arty and inspired this weekend to launch our Avoncroft Art Exhibition. Create some artwork to go into the exhibition or take it home with you. Apple Day Sun 10 Join us this Sunday for Avoncroft’s annual Apple Day, celebrating apples, nature and conservation. Half Term: The Big Draw Tue 26 – Sun 31 Take part in the Big Draw at Avoncroft this half term as a fantastic finale to the Avoncroft Art Exhibition. Halloween Trick or Treat Sat 30 – Sun 31 Prepare for a spooktacular evening of frights and delights as you explore our site at night! Pre-booking essential for this very popular event.
